Cadets have the opportunity to visit Volunteer Gliding Schools (VGS) affiliated with their squadrons and experience gliding in either powered or unpowered gliders.
Gliding flights generally consist of 20-30 minute flights in which the pilot allows the cadet to familiarise his or herself with the aircraft and its controls, and generally get a gliding experience. The experience flight may contain more advanced material depending upon the amount of experience the cadet has.
If cadets enjoy gliding and wish to continue it, they may be awarded a gliding scholarship which allows them to further their glider training to the point of being able to fly solo in the glider.
