Shooting
Shooting

Within the ATC rifle shooting is still retained as a competitive sport, and after being successfully trained to a high standard on the safe use of the rifles.

Cadets are able to shoot air rifles, the No. 8 .22in target rifle, the L98A1 Cadet GP rifle and for the skilled, the L81A2 Target Rifle. Cadets have to progress through the rifle by reaching certain standards on each - two of these standards are presented as awards to the cadets, the ATC and RAF Marksmen badges.

Below: The L98A1 Cadet GP rifle. This picture is different to most of the rifles used by the cadets in the fact it is fitted with a SUSAT (Sight Unit Small Arms Trilux) sight, usually only reserved for Army Infantry units, as well as a flash eliminator on the end of the barrel.
