The Staff qualification, similarly to the First Class classification, is split into two parts. The first part of the exam is based on the study of three of the subjects listed in the table on the Training page which have not been previously studied at Senior level.

The second part of the examination is an oral interview with a Wing Staff Officer (WSO). This tests general knowledge of the RAF, ATC and other subjects such as current affairs. The WSO may also wish to observe the candidate giving a lesson to other cadets, as one of the main duties of a Staff Cadet is to train the other cadets in the classification subjects.
